50 Portland police officers have resigned after a fellow officer was indicted for an alleged assault during last summer's protests.
Officer Corey Budworth was charged by a grand jury for allegedly assaulting a photographer last August, when more than 200 protesters descended on a municipal building.
In response to the indictment, all 50 members of the Portland Police Rapid Response Unit stepped down from their role with the RRT, but will remain with the police department.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said the officers have "worked long hours under difficult conditions" and acknowledged "the toll this past year has taken on them and their families".
