Seattle Plan Would Fine Gun Owners for Not Properly Storing Weapons

GETTY IMAGES

As the country continues to grapple with the gun control issue, Seattle’s mayor has unveiled a proposal to fine gun owners $500 to $10,000 for failing to lock up their firearms.

Mayor Jenny Durkan and Council member M. Lorena González drafted the legislation due to the recent school shootings in Florida, Texas and other locations.

The bill has been forwarded to Seattle's City Council for consideration and would not apply to guns carried or owned by authorized users, only weapons that need to be stored.

What do you think of this legislation?  If passed will it be effective in reducing gun violence?  Do you keep your firearms locked up when not in use at home?  Do you see this bill passing?
