A vigilante in Fremont, California, allegedly killed a 71-year-old pedophile pastor, David Brimmer, after tracking him down using the public sex offender registry. Varun Suresh, 29, is accused of stabbing Brimmer to death at his home on the morning of September 18. Suresh reportedly posed as an accountant seeking new clients to confirm Brimmer's identity before attacking him.
According to the Fremont Police Department, officers responded to a violent altercation and found Brimmer unresponsive with significant stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Suresh, who did not know Brimmer personally, allegedly used California's Megan's Law Website to identify local sex offenders, including Brimmer, and took screenshots of their profiles. He told police he wanted to kill a sex offender because "they hurt children" and "deserve to die."
Suresh allegedly chased Brimmer down the street, demanding he "repent," before stabbing him multiple times in the neck and throat. He reportedly told police he "wasn't planning on getting away" with the crime and wanted to be arrested, believing that because Brimmer was a pedophile, "it should be cool" as reported by KTVU. The news station also noted the Suresh told officer that murdering Brimmer was "honestly, really fun."
Brimmer was previously convicted in 1995 for molesting young boys while serving as a pastor and served nine years in prison. Suresh is facing multiple charges, including murder, and is currently in custody awaiting a psychiatric evaluation according to People.
