Trapeze artist Marina Barcelรณ died at the age of 27 after plummeting during her routine at the Paul Busch Circus show in Bautzen Germany on Saturday (September 27), the Sun reports.

Barcelรณ, of Spain, was pronounced dead immediately after falling 16 feet to the floor in front of a crowd of nearly 100 people.

โ€œWe canโ€™t believe whatโ€™s happened,โ€ one circus employeeย told Bild in Germany.

The accident, which caused the popular circus to cancel its subsequent shows, is still being investigated by local authorities. Ralf Huppertz, chief of Germany's circus association, believes Marina could have suffered from an unknown health issue.

โ€œItโ€™s unusual for a well-trained artist like Marina to not survive a fall fromโ€ that height, Huppertz told Bild.

โ€œPerhaps she got dizzy on the trapeze,โ€ he added.

Marina opted not to use a safety rope during her routine because "she doesn't have to," according to police spokesman Stefan Heiduck.

โ€œShe decides for herself whether to use safety rope," Heiduck added.

No other individuals were in the ring at the time of Barcelรณ's deadly fall. The 27-year-old had more than a decade of experience as a trapeze artist and was scheduled to continue performing for the Paul Busch Circus during its upcoming tour.

Barcelรณ shared numerous Instagram post of herself performing her routine.

"Up here, I work the best," she wrote in the caption of herself performing her tight rope routine shared on May 31.
