Taylor Swift Fans Celebrate Now That She's Free To Re-Record Her Old Music

Swifties are rejoicing now that Taylor Swift is free to re-record her earlier music!

Fans everywhere made #TaylorIsFree a worldwide trending topic this weekend as Sunday (November 1) marked a significant moment for the "Cardigan" musician, who is now legally able to re-record new versions of her first five albums.

In case you didn’t know, Swift’s first five records — Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation – were acquired by Scooter Braun in 2019 after scoring at $300 million deal with her previous label, Big Machine Label Group. The acquisition became the subject of controversy last summer as Swift claimed she had been blocked from performing her older music at the 2019 American Music Awards.

However, Swift later revealed on Good Morning America that her contract would allow her to re-record her music starting in November 2020. “I’m very excited about it because I think that artists deserve to own their work,” the “Delicate” singer explained at the time. “I just feel really passionately about that.”

Needless to say, her fans felt just as passionately this Sunday when hundreds of thousands of Swifties took to Twitter to celebrate the exciting news.

“It’s officially November which means Taylor can start re recording her first five albums this MONTH TAYLOR IS FREE#TaylorIsFree,” one user tweeted.

Another diehard Swiftie wrote, “We all will be deleting all of her old music from our playlists and apps and will only be streaming Taylor's art owned by Taylor. That's it.”

The 30-year-old, who is now signed to Republic Records, has released two albums since leaving Big Machine, Lover and Folklore — both of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
