Florida Woman In Labor Makes Husband Stop At Elections Office To Vote

A pregnant Florida woman was determined to cast her ballot in the 2020 election, even if she was going into labor, according to WFLA on Friday (October 30). The woman and her husband were on their way to the hospital until the she made him stop at an early voting location near Orlando. The wife refused to go to the hospital until she voted.

"She was calm. The husband was a little more nervous," Karen Briceno Gonzalez said, a worker with the Supervisor of Elections Office in Orange County. The husband asked for a ballot for his wife, and Gonzalez requested his wife's license. He told the election worker she didn't understand. The staff "kicked into high gear" once he told them about the situation.

Gonzalez thought the Central Florida woman would want to cast her vote later, so she gave her a vote-by-mail ballot. The pregnant woman wanted to fill it out right then. "So the woman in labor filled out her ballot while doing a little controlled breathing," Gonzalez said. "She was very happy she got to vote."

Officials certified the mom-to-be's ballot. The employee gave a child already in the car an American flag, the couple continued to the hospital.
