MIAC grants graduating senior athletes added year of eligibility

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has made a ruling that will benefit graduating seniors who play spring sports that were cancelled due to the spread of COVID-19. The ruling will allow an added year of eligibility for graduating seniors to play their spring sports at their current school for the 2020-21 season as long as they meet applicable requirements for student athletes set forth by the NCAA.

According to the statement from the MIAC, "The rule provides a one-time eligibility exception for graduating seniors, allowing them to remain at their current institution and compete in their spring sport during the 2020-21 academic year, provided the student-athlete is enrolled and seeking a second baccalaureate or graduate degree, has eligibility remaining, and their participation occurs within the applicable 10-semester/15-quarter period set forth by the NCAA."
