The mother of a 14-year-old boy who killed himself at Dennis Intermediate School in Indiana is facing charges for allowing her son to have easy access to her firearms.

On December 13, Mary York's son took her boyfriend hostage and was planning to go to his school with plans to kill the students who bullied him. York called the police, who were able to lock down the school before the young boy arrived. He was armed with a rifle, a pistol, and Molotov cocktails.

Police cornered the boy in a stairwell and he took his own life. Nobody else was injured in the incident.

Authorities say that York was responsible for her son's actions, and she is facing seven charges, including six felonies. They accused York of ignoring the warning signs that her son was showing. Despite having suicidal and homicidal thoughts, York pulled her son from an inpatient mental health program and allowed him to stop taking the medication he was prescribed.

In addition, she failed to properly secure her guns, even after her son opened fire in their house.

York was charged five counts of felony neglect of a dependent, one count of felony dangerous control of a child, and one misdemeanor count of criminal recklessness.
