Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Meets With President Donald Trump

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey meets with President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey met privately at the White House Tuesday afternoon after he accused the platform of bias against conservatives.

One portion of the meeting was reportedly devoted to Trump's concerns that Twitter was limiting or messing with his follower count on the platform, The Washington Post reported. Trump said he had heard from fellow conservatives that they had lost followers for reasons that were unclear as well. Earlier, Trump tweeted complaints about Twitter and how the online social media site is "very discriminatory" and doesn't "treat me well as a Republican."

Twitter has struggled to deal with an influx of fake accounts and bots and regularly bans them as they are discovered. During Dorsey's meeting with the president, the Twitter CEO explained that even he had lost followers as a result of enforcing the company's policies.

In a statement released by Twitter, the company said the meeting focused on "protecting the health of the public conversation ahead of the 2020 U.S. elections and efforts underway to respond to the opioid crisis."

The online social media company has partnered with the government to help encourage people to safely dispose of prescription drugs they no longer need or use to prevent abuse. This isn't Dorsey's first trip to the White House. In 2011, he participated in a town hall with President Barack Obama.

After the meeting, President Trump tweeted a photo with Jack, writing that "Lots of subjects discussed regarding their platform and the world of social media in general."
